How Yoga Can Help You Manage Stress + Anxiety

Stress and anxiety can show up in many ways, shortness of breath, a change in mood or sleep pattern. Everyone’s experiences and responses to stress are different but science shows that mindfulness practices such as yoga, meditation and regular exercise are really helpful tools to manage both the physical and emotional responses to stress and anxiety. 

The physical postures in yoga can help relieve tension and physical blockages caused from stress within the body whilst the combination of breathwork and movement in yoga encourages your mind into a meditative state, allowing you to find stillness and focus on the present moment. By using a different part of your brain to focus on the movements and breath, you can tap into your nervous system to feel more in control, calm and at ease. 

When yoga and meditation are practiced consistently, they can start to help you regulate your stress responses and ultimately create positive psychological shifts.
